"You mean you find IRC distracting?" I say as I probably spend hours waiting on internet chats with bated breath, not getting anything productive done as I try to maintain my end of a conversation simultaneously across dozens of different chat rooms I happen to be interacting in.

Hmm, I really do end up my most productive when I'm tuning out the world for a while at a time.

I myself tend to be very annoyed by people I depend upon stopping at any time to take a break. Mainly because I myself find it annoying to have to take a break from any task whatsoever, lest I never be able to get started again. I will work for myself or others until I pass out dead. Maybe this is also why I am so burned out on working that I hardly feel like doing it ever any more. Yet somehow, I still haven't eliminated my expectations of the same from others.

Meanwhile, while waiting for the developer I am working with to fix my rootfs issues on one of my machines, instead of proceeding to take a break and play some games on my other machine, I am instead sitting here, staring at an IRC client, waiting for the developer to wake up again.

I have a current backup of that rootfs, so I could say screw the developer and reformat my machine to a more stable filesystem. I would also spend the entire night sitting there, staring at the rsync output, waiting for it to finish. But then I'd also worry that the developer thought I'd given up on getting the actual issue solved, which won't just go away because I wiped my computer and restored from a backup. I would just be absolving myself of all responsibility for it, and let some other poor sap discover it a few years down the line.

I do have to wonder how poor a person has to be, that when their elderly relative is in the hospital, the young visitor who spends every day there is eating the elderly relative's hospital food. Don't the staff have to write down how much the patient is eating on their charts?

Damn. There used to be this shred remix of Stairway to Heaven, and nobody bothered to preserve it, and it got DMCA'd off YouTube years ago. And there's zero reference to it on Google. It basically ripped off the stems to the original wholesale and just had remixed/resung lyrics.

"And she's buying a cafe in Devon"
etc.

I swear, there must be something weird with my brain. I always used to think the lyrics to Stayin' Alive went:

"Oh, you can tell by the way I use my walk,
I'm a woman now, no time to talk."

And for some reason, this made extra sense because of the falsetto.

Cool! Microsoft Excel now has Copilot sentiment analysis! Just what I needed my Spreadsheet app to do, analyze the mood of the verbose, long form text. That I am typing into my budget sheet.

Nobody will stop using Windows 10 just because it's going EoL. Patching is already a hostile action anyway, they'll view the lack of patches as a godsend. Uptimes will be yuuuuge.

I think I witnessed a tragedy of some sort tonight with an Uber Eats driver. They picked up my order, then proceeded to book it to the nearest hospital, then booked it to some apartments that were out of the way of both the hospital and my home. Hope they and theirs are okay.

Jesus fuck, my parents asked Siri to find “As Time Goes By”, the British TV series from decades ago, and it offered to send emergency services for them. Is this a new key word for suicidal ideation?

Whee, more fuel for the fire: It’s a bad idea to leave MFi / Lightning cables plugged into a charger indefinitely. Apparently, the little chip in the interface needs to be power cycled periodically, or else it will just decide to stop charging devices for no good reason. I have had this happen repeatedly in the last few months. You’d think I’d learn and stop leaving my charger cable plugged in all the time? But no.
