I am officially sticking my head in the sand. It's better for my outlook on reality this way. Seeing posts of doom and gloom just increases my desire to burn it all to the ground. But this is a post-9pm opinion, so feel free to discount it.

Jesus, Google is absolutely useless. I can't find any pages whatsoever on the sudo config option, passwd_timeout. You know, the one that configures how long it will sit there with a password prompt on the screen before deciding, "timeout" and self terminating in failure. I had to find the post outlining its use on the Arch wiki for sudo, because of course, every post on Google about sudo timeout deals with the timestamp_timeout, or period before it will require a password again on invocation.

Setting the former to 0 in sudoers or a sudoers.d file will prevent it from self terminating if you, say, leave a terminal based update process running for hours and forget about it, only to notice it again later.

What could possibly go wrong with unfettered access to whatever drugs you could possibly desire, with no money changing hands, and no prescriptions required? I'm willing to live with the consequences of anarcho space communism.

Fuck you, r/duolingo. I shouldn’t have to provide context to use you as an unremitting shitposting platform whenever something makes me mad. I shouldn’t have used the “language question” flair, but I could no longer find the “user error” tag that I always understood to mean “generic shitposts”.

I don’t want a serious conversation, I just want to scream into the void and feel like at least one person will be subjected to my screaming.

subtoot, massive brain dump on "AI" tools

I definitely can understand an artist's desire to not have their work used for AI model training. But at the same time, can any artists understand the idea of someone who has severely impaired visualizing ability, and possibly impaired drawing ability, using an AI model to prototype ideas to then use as references for an artist to draw an idea in their style? Possibly to ask them to give it their own inspired poses instead of whatever the AI came up with, but either way, asking an artist to render it for money?

I really only consider AI use for inspiration, I think it's really rude to actually sell AI output. Well, maybe other than paying for the compute cycles to run the model. The cost of training a model should also include the cost of the material that was used to train the model, but we all know that big businesses will never go for that, and small timers who can afford compute cycles to train models probably already can barely afford the compute time needed for the training, much less paying every artist to use their work. And then, those personal models are probably not being widely used like big business models are.

Sorry for the dump, I just think these mathematical models can be interesting toys, I just think it's unfair when they're being used to replace already underpaid artists. I would hope that artists don't mind if the people using them are just using them for toys, or inspiration for paid work.

When it comes to gatekeeping things, even gatekeeping support behind a lengthy explanation and hard to spot confirmation check, I would rather tell someone directly how to do exactly what they want, even if it means they learn nothing in the process. Sometimes I even just do the thing for the person instead of trying to show them how to do it themselves.

I just prefer the least painful solution in the short term. It's not like I'll remember tomorrow anyway.

#clothes #womensclothing looking for dress suggestions for my mom. She has to buy dresses with a large waist, but short torso and short legs. She ends up buying 3X large dresses from catalogues, and they are barely large enough around the waist, but then end up being a length designed for a 6ft+ tall woman, and she has to pull up the hem to wear them. She needs that waist, but for a 5ft 2in woman. Does anyone know keywords or places to buy such clothing?

I will make this a blog post, but my attempt to use Windows a primary OS was put on hold by numerous nitpicks with the experience of running various software I use, which outweighed the problems I was having with Linux immediately prior to the switch.

possible ableism mention, ice cream person

So, I don't know where this came from, but someone in my extended family had picked up and/or started some tradition of referring to the roving ice cream trucks that patrol around cities with music playing, as "the village idiot". I can find no mention of this on the Googles, so it must be a very localized thing.

Please stop trying to meddle in my relationships. It won't change anything how you are expecting.

We got chased out of another community today because people just can't leave well enough alone. I guess people expect me to just dump my boyfriend for whatever reason they've cooked up for it, and get tired of us behaving the way we do. Oh well, guess we'll just burn more bridges.

Facebook mention, @highlight spam

Cool, I found a new reason to hate Facebook. Apparently, if you post (at sign) and click on "highlight", it will spam a link to the comment to every one of your friends, including by email immediately after you do it.

What you don't know about this, as someone who has received this notification, is that most of the people who are still doing this shit heard about it via some "hack" that claims you can use this function to "hack" Facebook and find out who is "stalking" your profile without leaving likes or reactions.

Thanks for the extra engagement bullcrap, Zuck.
